Surrounded by Mediterranean forest and located on the northern slope of the Corredor mountain range, Sant Sadurn\u00ed de Collsabadell is a Romanesque church that emerges with discreet solemnity between the hiking trails of the Montnegre and Corredor Parks. Located at an altitude of about 240 meters, next to the municipality of Llinars del Vall\u00e8s, the complex is listed as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest and is part of the Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. <\/p>\n
Its documented origin dates back to the 10th century, although the current building retains the essential forms of the 12th century Romanesque church. The most characteristic element is the slender, three-bay square bell tower, decorated with gargoyles and battlements, which is accessed by a half-tower attached to the building. Inside, the barrel vault, Lombard arches and side chapels added in the 16th and 17th centuries create an architecture that combines Romanesque sobriety with more elaborate details. <\/p>\n
The foundations of the old Romanesque apse, discovered in the 20th century under the presbytery, are visible from the temple and offer direct testimony to its past. Also outstanding is the Roser chapel, with sculpted corbels representing fantastic and grotesque animals, as well as the adjacent cemetery, which preserves a voussoir altar and a wrought iron cross. <\/p>\n
During the Civil War, the church suffered serious damage, but pieces of goldsmithing from the 17th to 19th centuries and several altarpieces were preserved, such as the one of the Roser or the one of the Verge de la Bonasort, which today help to reconstruct its memory.<\/p>\n
Currently, Sant Sadurn\u00ed de Collsabadell can be visited freely during the day, and on the last weekend of July or the first of August, depending on the year, it hosts its main festival. Sant Sadurn\u00ed represents a valuable landmark for lovers of rural Romanesque, heritage and the peace of the landscape.
