The Giant Meeting

Festival, culture and tradition in the heart of Llinars

The Giant Meeting of Llinars, organized by the Giant Group La Patufa, is an annual celebration that every spring transforms the town center into a vibrant space of celebration, culture and tradition. Usually held on the second Saturday of May, this day brings together giant groups from Catalonia and other places, promoting dialogue and coexistence through a popular demonstration deeply rooted in local and Catalan identity.

The festival starts in the gardens of Castell Nou with an exhibition of the participating giant figures—giants, giants, big heads and bestiary elements—which offers a first opportunity to enjoy this cultural heritage. Then, a parade travels through the main streets until reaching the Plaça dels Països Catalans, where the final show of giant dances and dances takes place, a moment full of joy and emotion that culminates with the explosion of the end of the festival.

The local protagonists are Rimbau and Sibil·la, two emblematic giants who symbolize representative elements of the history and tradition of Llinars, such as the Torrassa and the basket of linen flowers, dressed in the traditional clothing of full-dress farmers. Also part of the festival are the Roman giants Gal·la and Heredita, the giants Guirbert and Sança, the Isard —a ceremonial bestiary figure inspired by the sculpture by Frederic Marès in Plaça Caritg— and the Capgrossos, who give color and diversity to the gathering.

This event promotes popular culture in a community setting, where La Patufa acts as the host and welcomes the invited groups with open arms, creating a meeting space that reinforces festive, cultural and social ties between different towns united by a passion for tradition.
