Municipal music school – Can Marqués

Music and heritage at the service of the community

The Municipal School of Music of Llinars del Vallès is one of the main drivers of the cultural life of the municipality. Beyond its educational function, it stands out for being a space open to creativity and participation, with activities aimed at audiences of all ages. It is located in Can Marquès, an old farmhouse linked to the Can Gomita estate, which was renovated with a project by the architect Álvaro Siza. The new building, which maintains original elements, combines architectural heritage and contemporary design. It includes teaching spaces, an auditorium named after Josep Martí i Cristià and a small arboretum with monumental tree species.

Historically, the house has been given various names—such as Can Moix or Can Moix Cremat—and at the beginning of the 20th century it was transformed into a summer residence by the Marquès family. Uninhabited for decades, it finally passed into the hands of the City Council, which promoted its rehabilitation as a music center.

The school, managed by the Amics de la Unió organization, offers instrumental and vocal training, individual and collective, for all ages and levels, and promotes the link with the territory through concerts, workshops and meetings. Highlights include auditions and musical evenings, instrumental meetings, the Santa Cecília charity concert and the Christmas and end-of-year choir school concerts, among many other activities that are organized throughout the year.

With a unique architectural environment and a stable programming, the facility becomes an accessible space for the enjoyment of music and a key piece for the culture and creativity of Llinars.
