Located in one of the busiest areas of Llinars, Ca l’Alemany is a living example of how a space with history can be reinvented to serve the town of today. Built in 1968 as the new Civil Guard barracks, the building occupies part of the land that had been owned by one of the most influential families in the municipality: the Alemanys.
The original farmhouse of Ca l’Alemany, located opposite the church of El Prat, was a simple house despite the economic importance of the lineage. At the beginning of the 20th century, the descendants had to sell the estate due to family debts, and in 1933 it passed into the hands of a new owner. After the Civil War, the building served as a provisional school and later became the first local barracks, until its demolition in 1986 due to its state of ruin.
The current building, located in another part of the estate, was in operation as a barracks until 2000. The City Council acquired it in 2003 and, after a comprehensive renovation, it was inaugurated as a municipal facility in 2006 with a name that recovers the historical memory of the place: Ca l’Alemany.
Currently, it houses essential services such as the Local Police, the Justice of the Peace, the Mayor’s Office and spaces for social groups. It is part of the heritage tourist route via the Llinars Information Stands, which value renovated buildings with service and memory criteria. An example of architecture adapted to public service, rooted in history and open to the future with full accessibility.
