Frederic Marès Deulovol (1893-1991) was a prominent Catalan sculptor who maintained close ties with Llinars del Vallès. Attracted by the town’s tranquility and natural beauty, he began spending his summers there in 1934 and, over time, a summer residence was built there. His presence and involvement in local life left a mark that is still remembered with fondness by the people of Llinas today.
Marès’ legacy is clearly visible in the artistic heritage of Llinars. The image of the Virgin of the Prat is preserved in the parish church of Santa Maria del Prat, a sculpture by her that is venerated as a spiritual and cultural symbol. Furthermore, in Plaça Caritg —formerly known as Plaça de Santa Maria— stands the bronze sculpture of a chamois, popularly called “la cabra”, dating from 1974 and which the artist dedicated to the town; this work has become an emblematic symbol and much loved by the inhabitants. Also noteworthy is the sculpture of three deer located in the garden of the Can Lletres cultural center.
These creations are part of the cultural and tourist heritage of Llinars, highlighting the special bond between the sculptor and the municipality. Furthermore, in 1984, coinciding with Frederic Marès’ 90th birthday, Llinars paid tribute to him by dedicating a street to his name, a recognition that reinforces the importance and value of his legacy in local cultural life.
