Customs and traditions of Llinars

Llinars del Vallès is a town of living traditions, with a culture that has been passed down from generation to generation and that continues to enrich the local calendar year after year. Its popular festivals, some of ancestral origin and others of more recent creation, share a participatory and community spirit that fills the streets with music, dance and coexistence.

One of the most emblematic celebrations is the Gypsy Dance, first documented in 1818, interrupted in the mid-20th century and recovered in 1992 thanks to the Colla Giola. Every year, during Carnival, the Plaça dels Països Catalans becomes the stage for a unique show: couples of all ages dance to the rhythm of the xotis, the jota or the catxutxa, accompanied by traditional troupes such as the diablots, the old man and the old woman or the alabarders. A celebration that combines tradition, memory and inclusion.

The big festive moment arrives with the Santa Maria del Prat Festival, around September 8th. Giants like Rimbau and Sibil·la, linked to the ancient barons of Corbera, and Borni, a fire figure born in 1998, lead the parades and fire runs, while the friendly rivalry between blue and red enlivens the popular games through healthy competition, a festival full of color and accessible to everyone.

Throughout the year, other events enrich this cultural fabric: the Fira dels Torrons, created in 1997 and held during the first weekend of December, brings together more than 80 craft and local product stalls, children’s workshops and family shows in the Castell Nou and the Plaça dels Països Catalans, offering a Christmas with a local accent.

They are also moments to share gatherings in hermitages, afternoon dances in tents, choral meetings or participatory days where residents and visitors celebrate culture as a tool for cohesion. In this natural and welcoming environment, Llinars keeps its intangible heritage alive, balancing history and community, and demonstrating that tradition and contemporaneity can go hand in hand.
